We've been busy, 6 months in development! And now, Planet Robot is proud to offer our latest production, and the second series to be developed fully in-house. We present to you Winky! Robot, one of the true icons of the early 1960's clockwork robots!
Originally produced by the Yonezawa Company of Japan, in the early 1960s. Simple cubist design, clever clockwork features, robust in finish and function - Winky captures the elegance and essence of Japanese tin robots of that period. No wonder he's in many a wish list!
Winky has a dimpled hammered paint finish, a favourite choice of Yonezawa who used it in their numerous productions including the Diamond Planet Robot. Here, Winky! is presented in a choice of the classic colors of hammered blue and silver grey plus brand new interpretations in lavender and cool bare metal (only 50 produced as a member's special).
Just like the originals, Winky! has slight detail differences. The most obvious being the white Oxygen Meter and the black Radiation Counter. How about a Red Radiation Counter? There are some other detail surprises, but we'll leave them for you to discover!
Then of course, the famous winking lenticular eyes! Sometimes called Flicker 3D or Vari-Vue, they are not holograms. Winky's eyes are actually dozens of optical-grade cylindrical lenses sitting in parallel lines on top of specially prepared images. The lenses reflect the images beneath them so that as your point of view changes, the image you see changes - creating his special winking eyes.
Our Winky! replicas are of the finest handcrafted quality and absolutely limited. Each one individually stamped with a unique serial number and comes with an ID card bearing the same. Just like our Zoomer Robots, if not for our built-in markers, they are virtually indistinguishable from the originals.
Smooth running clockwork mechanism with attached wind-up key. Every part of Winky! has been produced faithfully - from the winking eyes to the sweeping chest dial, the fantastic shower of sparks behind gaping mouth, hard rubber ears to the small yet significant rivets on the bottom foot plate! This is a Planet Robot True Limit Production, no expense spared.
Winky! comes with the correct old style glossy stapled box featuring beautifully sharp color lithography, produced with the same zealous attention to authenticity as the robots themselves. The artwork is a curious blend of photo images overlayed with hand-drawn backgrounds which Yonezawa is fond of doing.
